The NEW Longines Spirit Zulu Time 39mm

The NEW Longines Spirit Zulu Time 39mm

In 2022, Longines introduced the new Spirit Zulu Time—a watch inspired by Longines' aviation history featuring a flyer GMT, a watch with a jumping 12-hour hand complication. The initial release of the Spirit Zulu Time was a success, but the cry for a smaller size was quickly heard since the case was 42mm, and many collectors and enthusiasts asked for a 39mm version. Fast forward to June 14th, 2023, and the release of the 39mm Spirit Zulu Time would be unveiled to the masses, and with no surprise, the people fell in love.

The key feature of the Zulu Time is its ability to track multiple timezones—up to three thanks to the bi-directional bezel. This watch targets frequent travellers by land, air or sea and is often found in different timezones or for those who love aviation combined with a stunning GMT. The highlight complication of the Zulu Time is the jumping 12-hour hand, adding functionality and blending gracefully with the overall aesthetic.

The Zulu Time features a 39mm stainless steel case, which is 13.5mm thick with a 47mm lug-to-lug and a 21mm lug width, implying a perfect size overall and will be a comfortable watch on the wrist. The case and bracelet feature both brushed and polished finishing to create a durable yet elegant aesthetic and is paired with 100m of water resistance, further demonstrating the Zulu Time is a rugged and reliable travel watch.

Bringing the Zulu Time to life is the Longines calibre L844.4 based on the ETA A31.L01 crafted specifically for Longines. The L844.4 is a COSC-certified automatic movement with a 72-hour power reserve. The watch's overall design harkens back to vintage aviation but keeps a modern aesthetic through various colour and strap/bracelet options.
